Swedish soprano Barbro CĂtron is a young artist emerging from the Nordic opera scene, trained at the Royal Danish Opera Academy, where she recently completed her Master’s degree. She has already appeared at the Royal Danish Opera as Tebaldo in Verdi’s Don Carlos and as Flora in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. In the spring of 2026, Barbro made her debut at Norrlandsoperan as Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola in collaboration with Malmö Opera, marking another step onto the Scandinavian professional stage.
Her repertoire centres on light lyric soprano roles, with a particular affinity for Mozart and 20th-century opera. On stage she has performed roles such as Atalanta in Handel’s Serse, Flora in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, Yniold in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, and the Sandman and Dew Fairy in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. She has also appeared in productions of Orfeo ed Euridice and The Cunning Little Vixen, while developing roles such as Zdenka (Arabella), Ilia (Idomeneo) and Despina (Così fan tutte) in scenes and excerpts.
Alongside her operatic work, CĂtron is active in contemporary repertoire and maintains an ongoing collaboration with composer Athanasia Kotronia, including performances and recordings of new works. In 2026 she will take on the title role in HĂĄkon Guttormsen’s chamber opera Porcelain Pink, further expanding her profile in newly written music.
Recent and upcoming engagements include participation in the Copenhagen Opera Festival, appearances at Malmö Opera, and selection as a finalist in the Schymberg Award. With a musical background shaped across Copenhagen, Stockholm and Weimar, she represents a new generation of Scandinavian singers building a repertoire with stylistic awareness and a steadily growing stage presence.
