South Korean tenor Sung Min Song is making waves on both the opera and concert scenes across Europe. Recently, he debuted as Erik in Wagner’s Der fliegende Holländer at Komische Oper Berlin (Spring 2024) and also participated in a Mozart concert tour in Asia with Les Musiciens du Louvre under Marc Minkowski. Earlier in the season, he recorded three Mozart Masses with the Kölner Kammerorchester for NAXOS and performed Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Bochumer Symphoniker, also recorded on CD. Sung has performed Verdi’s Requiem at Elbphilharmonie and participated in an Opera Gala at Alte Oper Frankfurt. He is also a frequent performer of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with various orchestras, including the Münchner Symphoniker and Sinfonieorchester Aachen.
In the 2024/25 season, Sung’s engagements include Cavalleria Rusticana, La Traviata, and Il Trittico at Nationaltheater Mannheim, as well as Rusalka and La Traviata at Theater Osnabrück. In August, he performed Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Bruckner’s Te Deum, and Janáček’s Glagolitic Mass with the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester in Hamburg, and return to Stabat Mater with the MDR Rundfunkorchester in Leipzig. Additionally, he will perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the WDR Rundfunkchor in Cologne and other venues.
In the 2022/23 season, Sung debuted as the Prince in Dvořák’s Rusalka at Komische Oper Berlin and performed Arnold in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell at Bühnen Bern, and Gounod’s Faust at Aalto Theater Essen. Other notable roles include Ernesto in Don Pasquale and Alfred in Die Fledermaus. He has also been successful with Puccini’s Messa di Gloria and Carmina Burana with the Münchner Symphoniker and Tonkünstler-Orchester in Vienna. Earlier career highlights include performances at Tiroler Festspiele in Erl and the Rheingau Musik Festival.
