The Swedish tenor Mikael Onelius got his Bachelor’s degree at the Birmingham Conservatoire and subsequently his Master’s degree at The Academy of Opera in Stockholm. He won first prize in the Gothenburg Wagner-Society competition and has also received scholarships from The Royal Academy of Music and the Mannheimer Swartling foundation.
Onelius, who has focused his on Wagner and early 20th century repertoire like e.g. Britten and Janáček, has performed at Buxton Opera Festival, Garsington Opera and at the Royal Albert Hall.
In 2015, Mikael Onelius sang Claudio in the Swedish premiere of Wagner’s early opera Das Liebesverbot and received great reviews in the press. Last year, he made his debut at the Gothenburg Opera as Malcolm in David Radok’s praised production of Macbeth.
Onelius returns to Garsington Opera this Summer to sing Apollo in Semele by G.F. Händel.
