Iréne Theorin’s vast repertoire includes the most demanding roles, such as Brünnhilde in Wagner’s Ring, Isolde in Tristan and Isolde, the title role in Puccini’s Turandot, the title role in Richard Strauss’ Elektra and Elisabetta in Verdi’s Don Carlos. Iréne is a recurring guest at institutions like Bayreuth, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Washington National Opera, Staatsoper in Berlin, Bayerischer Staatsoper in Münich and Staatsoper in Vienna. She has also sung at Deutsche Oper in Berlin, Salzburg Festspiele, The Royal Opera in London, the San Francisco Opera, Budapest Opera and the Royal Opera in Stockholm where she sang Elektra in 2012.
Iréne has participated in DVD-recordings including Elektra from Salzburg Festspiele, Götterdämmerung from La Scala, Tristan and Isolde from Bayreuth and the award-winning complete Ring-cycle from Copenhagen Opera.
Theorin studied at the Academy of Music in Gothenburg and at the Academy of Opera in Copenhagen. Iréne Theorin has received the Christina Nilsson Prize, awarded by The Royal Academy of Music. She is an honorary member of the Swedish Wagner-society and Queen Margrethe of Denmark has made her Knight of Dannebrogordern.
